Armenia – Optimising its New Series through Design, Security and Substrate

Currency News June 2019:The Central Bank of Armenia introduced a new series of banknotes at the start of this year, all of which are printed on a durable substrate (Hybrid™) and in which the design and security features have been updated. Arman Hovhannisyan, a Currency Issue Specialist at the Bank, told Currency News what these changes are connected with and how the new banknotes surpass the old ones.

Mirror Mirror, on the… Note

Currency News October 2018: Micro-mirrors have been in use for banknote security features by Louisenthal, a subsidiary of G+D Currency Technology, for several years now. About 4 million microscopic mirrors per square centimetre are aligned and shaped in such a way that the collective impact of their reflections results in an image that moves dynamically when the banknote is tilted. It even enables 3D effects such as reliefs or the shifting and floating of objects.

Remembering Madiba with Banknotes

Currency News July 2018: The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has launched its first ever commemorative banknote series, in celebration of the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela. The notes are in denominations of R10, R20, R50, R100 and R200. As part of the celebrations, the South African Mint has also issued a commemorative R5 circulation coin.

Dominican Republic Commemorates 70 Years

Currency News April 2018: To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic issued a commemorative $500 banknote last October, the first note to include Louisenthal’s optically variable Galaxy® thread. It also issued two versions of a special commemorative $70 peso coin.
